Florida Summer Homes

If you’ve lived in South Florida, you’re probably familiar with the “snow birds”.  Every year flocks of Northerners descend by the thousands on the Florida coasts, turning typically sleepy beach towns into vibrant, bustling beach destinations. For many this is an annual migration and most have summer homes ready to inhabit between the months of December through April.

Last August I spent a few days in Bonita Springs located on the west coast. My sister has a condo there so it’s a familiar destination for me.  Bonita is a relatively small beach town with it’s fair share of summer homes. This particular street is lined with Royal Palms and flanked on both sides with amazing Florida homes, each as unique as the next one.  Some have permanent residents, but most are boarded up and serve as the summer homes of the snow birds!  I share with you some of my favorites.

McKinney Airport Decorating Project

Earlier this year, I was offered the opportunity to decorate the lobby area at the McKinney National Airport.  As a pilot, you can only imagine my joy and excitement at the chance to decorate an airport…but especially the airport I fly out of!

In November 2013, the Collin County Regional Airport was bought by the City of McKinney and the name changed to McKinney National Airport.  The City also took over the FBO operations.  An FBO (fixed-base operator) is a commercial business granted the right by an airport to operate on the airport and provide aeronautical services such as fueling, hangars, tie-downs, etc.  To run the FBO the City also hired a new General Manager.

Under this new leadership, plans began taking shape for the renovation of the entire space.  This is what we started with..

A Visit To Lake Texoma

If you live here in north Texas, you know all about how low our lakes have been.  Usually, I get to see the receding shorelines from the air, this weekend however, I got to see them close up and personal.

I always enjoy spending time with friends near Kingston, Oklahoma on Lake Texoma.  Strategically placed, the back of their home sits on a cove overlooking the lake.

My Upside-Down Christmas Tree 2013

Here we are, Christmas Eve and I finally get around to sharing some pictures of my tree this year.  It’s hanging from the ceiling, of course, as it has for the last 4 years.  This year, it’s silver and white with splashes of red.

My Upside-Down Tree…A peek at my Christmas decor

For the last few years, I’ve enjoyed experimenting with my Christmas decor…forgoing the traditional fare for a more glitzy, and simple Transitional look.   It started 3 years ago with the hanging of my tree, the beginning of a new tradition.  That first year the decor was strictly silver and white, then last year I added chartreuse  to the mix.

2011

This year, I’ve decided to change things up again…I’ve brought out my old, familiar ornaments that I’ve collected throughout the years…and I’ve infused the house with color in the traditional hues of reds, golds, and greens.

I must say, the room looks totally different. Continue reading…

My Sister’s Garden

On a recent visit to Miami, I had a great time taking photos of my sister’s garden.  It’s a colorful and versatile garden…full of beautiful flowers, vegetables, fruits, foliage…the variety is incredible!  All delicately loved.

Peppers and Tomatoes

Lemons and Avocados

But it’s the FLOWERS that take the show!

Can you believe how gorgeous these are?  And there’s more…

The cashew tree

The garden feels wonderfully casual and random.

Thanks ST, for sharing it with us.

Hope I’ve inspired!
