Decorating for an 11-Year Old Boy

At 11, a young boy isn’t a baby anymore, so it’s a great time to start removing all the “baby” items that he’s had since birth, and re-decorate with things of current interests.

Before

He may not be a baby anymore, but he’s not a teenager either…you still have a couple more years before that happens! But in decorating now, you’ll have to consider how the room can grow with him throughout the teenage years. The first to consider is the furniture, which should be simple and classic…nothing too juvenile, but nothing too grown-up either. This full-bed set was the perfect choice, with a subtle masculine style and providing lots of storage.

We Are Still Open for Business…

Like all of you, my normal way of doing business is not an option today.  But that doesn’t mean that I’m not here to help you with your home!  Dorsch Interiors is still open for business…because we can do almost anything virtually.

I’m working on adapting to this new normal and focusing on how I can better connect and serve you during this time.  Here are a few ways we can connect while still maintaining social distancing.

A Virtual Consultation
With our cell phones I can “walk” your home with you, provide recommendations and answer your decor questions.

E-Design
Fill out a questionnaire, send us some pictures and measurements, and we’ll prepare for you an e-design with easy instructions for putting it all together!

New Design Plan
If you’ve been thinking of redecorating a room(s), we can start developing a design plan now, virtually, for later installation.  So that when the manufacturers are finally open, we are ready to go.

Please call, email or text for more information. alba@dorschinteriors.com 214-683-4249

Please stay home and stay safe!!

Because Everyone Loves a Good Before-&-After

Oftentimes, clients will want us to incorporate some of their existing furniture into the new design…because the pieces are meaningful or sentimental, or simply because the design budget can be better spent elsewhere.

Before

In this dining room, we kept the table and buffet (sans the top china part). But look how different these pieces look with a more updated color pallet!

Hope I’ve inspired!

Small Bathroom Remodel

Remodeling a bathroom can be stressful, but the benefits are SO worth it!!

That was certainly the case with this tiny master bathroom of a 1950’s home in Garland Texas.  Although we weren’t able to change the footprint or the space, we were able to improve the functionality with just a few minor adjustments to the floor plan.

Finding Inspiration in my Sister’s Garden

My sister’s garden never disappoints me.

For years, I have visited her in the Miami area during every season of the year, and like all tropical gardens, the variety of colors, textures, patterns, shapes, sizes…no matter what the season…are always on display!

The Fabric Blues

I love fabrics! Each one is a piece of art!

I remember, it wasn’t that long ago, when you walked into a fabric store you’d find a myriad of fabrics in all colors and patterns. But recently, I stopped by Cutting Corner fabric store in Addison TX and I was a little surprised at what I found….a sea of blues, grays, tans, and neutrals…and nothing else!

Even their carpet selections were all in the blue and neutral tones.

2019 Color of the Year

Of course there isn’t just ONE Color of the Year, in fact, all the top color giants pick their own color every year, and it’s always fun to see the varied spectrum of colors that are chosen.  This year, with the exception of Benjamin Moore’s “Metropolitan” (a very neutral light gray), all the choices are deep, warm earth tones.  Probably an indication of people’s yearning for more warmth and comfort amidst all the challenges of today’s outside world.  I’m liking this palette!  Continue reading…

A Victorian Beauty

A perfect little Victorian!  This little beauty had a For Sale sign out front, so I didn’t feel too awkward stopping to take pictures from the road!

The porch molding caught my eye.  The circle pattern is beautiful.  It’s more geometric than the typical ornate moldings you find on Victorian porches.  So much charm and inspiration… Continue reading…

Gorgeous Coastal Living

While in Rochester NY last week I drove by this gorgeous picturesque scene and just had to turn around for a picture.  I LOVE everything about this coastal home…the immaculately manicured yard, the shingles on the roof, the gray-on-white  color scheme, and more than anything, that view!  And not just from the street, can you imagine the view from that sunroom?

Mid Century Modern Hotel in Oregon

On my trip to Oregon in March, I stayed at the Ashland Hills Hotel & Suites.  It felt a little like staying in a time capsule…in a good way!

The hotel is a retro gem, wonderfully decorated with a mid century modern decor.   It opened originally in 1978, after 35 years it was purchased by new owners, and they have done a great job renovating and updating the comfort and amenities, while retaining it’s very cool mid-century vibe.
