At 11, a young boy isn’t a baby anymore, so it’s a great time to start removing all the “baby” items that he’s had since birth, and re-decorate with things of current interests.

He may not be a baby anymore, but he’s not a teenager either…you still have a couple more years before that happens! But in decorating now, you’ll have to consider how the room can grow with him throughout the teenage years. The first to consider is the furniture, which should be simple and classic…nothing too juvenile, but nothing too grown-up either. This full-bed set was the perfect choice, with a subtle masculine style and providing lots of storage.

Consider adding shelves. The 11-year old that owns this room loves all sports, and it was important for him to showcase his favorite trophies. Shelves were the perfect solution. As he gets older, they will continue to serve to display new items that a teenager will like. We chose thick, 10″ deep, industrial looking shelves that are “beefy”, masculine and sturdy. They are the focal point in the room.

We also moved his nightstand to the other side of the bed and placed the dresser to serve as his other nightstand. This allowed more room at the foot of the bed where we added 2 bean bag chairs for a comfortable seating area that will also grow with him through his teenage years.

And don’t forget to involve your 11-year old in the process. He will feel a vested interest in his room…and who knows, he may even keep it clean!
Hope I’ve Inspired!
