This past weekend, on a trip to Durant Oklahoma, I was inspired by a quaint little fabric shop I found in the old downtown area. The HNT Quilt Shop caters primarily to the quilting community and offers a wonderful assortment of fabrics and notions that appeal to quilters young and…more mature. As I entered the shop, it was immediately evident that the staff was friendly and passionate about what they were doing.

But what caught my attention the most was the color! The store is a visual feast of reds, yellows, greens, blues, and every color in between. The color is everywhere, starting with the bolts of fabric, which are all meticulously arranged and displayed by color, to the large selection of colorful thread spools.
But the quilts are the star of the show. The walls are lined with quilts that have no doubt been lovingly hand made by the staff and/or their customers. All of them a work of art.
The small shop even has a quilting machine.

When I was in grammar school, my mom signed us up (my sister and I) for all sorts of after school activities, including ballet, ceramics, guitar lessons, and of course sewing. I have to say that I have always been grateful to my mom for that. Especially for the sewing. Although I don’t sew consistently anymore, I continue to pick it back up every few years when I start getting the urge to create. I love being able to take a few yards of fabric and make a custom outfit that fits just right. Time is the biggest deterrent, but recently I’ve been thinking more and more about dusting off my sewing machine. And my visit to this quaint little fabric store has certainly contributed to that.

Hope I’ve Inspired!
