Last week I got back from a wonderful visit home…Miami. The best part of this visit was getting to redecorate, with my twin sister, her master bedroom.
They live in a small 990 square feet house, so the master bedroom is tiny by today’s standards. But for my sister, it’s this quaint charm that she loves. Our goal was to make the bedroom feel more calm, not so chaotic…in three days.

We were both very pleased with the results…
- The bed was too big for the room. A bed with headboard AND foot board takes up too much real estate in a small room. So we replaced the bed with a single headboard.
- We rearranged the furniture, which made a huge difference, making the room feel more spacious.
- The first step in choosing color was finding bedding. We found this paisley design in shades of blues and taupes.
- We painted the walls in a complimentary shade of taupe, and the ceiling in a complimentary blue.
- We hung ready-made window treatments that compliment the bedding.
My sis loves that shabby chic look, and has been dreaming of an antique iron headboard for her bedroom. We found this one on Craig’s List for a very reasonable price. It’s perfect!
On the opposite wall we hung her collection of framed prints. The lighthouse is a 1903 picture of the Cape Florida Lighthouse at Bill Baggs State park in Key Biscayne Florida. At the very top of this lighthouse is where her husband proposed marriage to her.
We gave each other 3 days to complete the room. Most of that time was spent on shopping and painting. So there are a few other things she’ll eventually do… new roman shades and perhaps chair rail with bead board on the bottom. But for now, she’s well underway to that calming, soothing space she was looking for…

The best part however, was getting to spend all that time decorating with my sister!
Hope I’ve inspired,
Alba
